This is a picture of friends gathering for breakfast. As
Muslims, we are celebrating Ramadan month during which Muslims fast through the
day from many things. We stop eating when the sun rises until the sun goes
down. Right now, It is between 17 to 18 hours a day. compared to back home in
Saudi Arabia is a little different. Hours of daylight there are less in three
hours or so back home because of the lower latitude. The life style changes
totally back home during Ramadan. People stay awake all the night as well as
shops. It is like all the community fast together which helps people to
encourage each other. There is a thing that I do not like over there especially
during Ramadan, and that is the weather. It is really super hot. It is the
reason that I like to fast here is because the weather is better. Even though
Ramadan has long hours here in Washington, but I spend my day without feeling
thirsty. The weather really helps. After a long day you want to find delicious
food. One of the things that I like back home is food. During Ramadan you end
your fast with really delicious food. Here, I have to cook for my self because
even if I want to buy food, I can not find a good restaurant to eat at. When
time goes beyond midnight, most restaurants are closed already. I still can
find fast food, but I get sick of burgers and fried chicken. The best way to
enjoy food with friends during this time is to buy a great meal at a good
restaurant and take it home, to eat with friends when the sun goes down, and
get enough breakfast food to eat, just before the sun rises again.
To non Muslims, it must seem a strange ritual, to fast
without food or water for such a long time. It is difficult sometimes to be
awake for classes during the day, after spending the night eating and talking
with friends. Ramadan is more enjoyable when you are with friends.
This is really neat! it's really nice that instead of settling for fast food, that doesn't really help you feel full after fasting, by gathering with friends who are sharing the experience and make everything seem calm and peaceful. it's interesting and admirable how different cultures come together to celebrate with friends and family.
